WASHINGTON — The 2020 election continues to dominate discussions, and it’s not solely due to President Donald Trump’s prime-time speech on Thursday evening.

Several of the president’s key supporters in Congress are actively stoking the fire as the midterm elections approach this year.

“Who emerged victorious in the 2020 election?” Raw Story questioned Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) at the Capitol this week.

“Donald Trump,” the Alabama gubernatorial candidate stated to Raw Story.

Are you joking?” Raw Story inquired. “Or are you serious?

Well, he genuinely won it,” Tuberville stated. “Now, they deceived him.

Although Trump’s nominee to succeed Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence, Jay Clayton, caused surprise on Wednesday by declining to state that Joe Biden won the 2020 election — “Joe Biden was certified as the president of the United States,” Clayton stated during his testimony — this viewpoint is more widespread than many realize in Washington.

That is particularly true at the U.S. Capitol.

“Who emerged victorious in 2020?” Raw Story questioned Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI).

Joe Biden served as president for four years,” said the former head of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs to Raw Story. “I believe it’s quite clear, don’t you?

But many of these nominees won’t admit he won it fairly,” Raw Story pressed. “They kind of use language like you.

He was elected president,” Johnson responded. “That’s all you need to be aware of.

“Are the outcomes still uncertain?” Raw Story inquired.

There are numerous irregularities in the 2020 election that have not been sufficiently examined,” Johnson stated. “There’s no question about that. We haven’t thoroughly looked into all the irregularities, whether they occurred in Wisconsin, Georgia, or Arizona. We truly should.

It’s identical on the House side of the Capitol.

Was the 2020 election resolved?” Raw Story questioned Andy Harris, the chair of the Freedom Caucus (R-MD). “Do you still have doubts?

“There are numerous questions regarding the 2020 election, including whether invalid absentee ballots were counted,” Harris said to Raw Story.

“Did you believe Biden’s victory was valid?” Raw Story asked.

Uh, likely,” Harris said following a pause. “But I believe there are still concerns regarding mail-in ballots. I think the president is completely correct. They are prone to a significant amount of fraud. We’ve had more mail-in ballots than ever before in Maryland. We sent out mail-in ballots to everyone without discrimination, including people who were deceased, had relocated, and so on.

Following his debate on C-SPAN with DNI candidate Clayton on Wednesday, Raw Story spoke with Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) to gain his insight on the Trump administration increasingly promoting claims of election fraud from 2020.

“It’s a traditional trait of a personalist authoritarian system that entering the inner circle demands the humble repetition of a recognized falsehood,” Ossoff said to Raw Story.

The 2020 election is behind most people, but it is becoming more central to this administration.

Following the deployment of former DNI Tulsi Gabbard to supervise the FBI raid on the Fulton County election headquarters in January, in recent weeks FBI Director Kash Patel has reassigned 260 FBI agents to focus on re-examining the 2020 presidential election. This follows Patel’s decision to dismiss agents who were previously handling the investigation into Trump’s attempts to challenge the 2020 election results.

Currently, as the midterms draw closer and President Trump is reorganizing his senior advisors, Democrats are worried that their Republican opponents are planning to elevate election skeptics to high positions within the government.

“What do you think about the inability of some of these nominees to state, or their decision not to state, who won the 2020 election?” Raw Story questioned.

The Trump approach, the Trump slogan will not allow anyone to claim he lost the 2020 election,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). “It’s concerning, as it highlights their complete absence of independence.

Regarding Trump’s prime-time speech on Thursday night, Blumenthal claims it aims more at lowering voter participation in November rather than altering the historical narrative.

“He is attempting to suppress the vote,” Blumenthal stated.

Introducing such division into the core of the American experiment — free and fair elections — surpasses the typical extreme partisanship that has become prevalent in the nation’s capital.

This is a grave injustice. We actually have the president of the United States opposing our democracy,” Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) said to Raw Story. “He’s using 2020 as an excuse to target the 2026 midterms, since he knows he’s a failure.
