Heart-wrenching police body camera video has recorded the instant sheriff’s officers rescued a grandmother who was stuck inside a heated vehicle.Teslafor over an hour

The narrow escape occurred just after 5:15 pm inWashington StateKitsap County, located to the west of Seattle.

Witnesses dialed 911 following the sight of an older woman stuck inside an electric car, as she appeared to be in trouble. Officers from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office arrived and tried to unlock the doors, but they remained secured.

It was later found out that the Tesla was in ‘pet safe mode,’ a function designed to maintain the air conditioning while the doors are locked internally to stop pets from getting out. Nevertheless, the air conditioning was not working.

When the officers arrived, they tried to speak with the woman in the car, but she only spoke Spanish. At one moment in the bodycam footage, she is seen waving her hand in front of her face, apparently indicating she was feeling warm.

The footage also captures a police officer asking, “Are you okay?” prior to the grandmother signaling that she was confused. He then inquired if she had a phone, indicating his own device, and she shook her head in denial.

The assistant utilized an online translation application to converse with the woman, entering sentences and then holding his phone against the glass for her to see.

The police quickly concluded that the woman had been inside the vehicle for at least an hour, while her granddaughter entered a nearby structure to handle some affairs.

“One hour,” one of the officials stated in the video, after he was seen leaning toward the window to speak with the older woman. “That’s a long time—one hour,” he then remarked, turning back to face the other officer.

The granddaughter seems to have set the car to ‘pet safe mode’ to ensure her grandma’s comfort, but the feature apparently failed, transforming the vehicle into a quickly warming trap.

Law enforcement officers checked nearby establishments to locate the woman’s granddaughter and found her approximately 15 minutes after reaching the location, as indicated by the body camera video timestamp.

“Have you got a white Tesla?” a deputy is heard asking a woman who was seated on a bench within the courtyard of one of the buildings.

Hello? Is it parked right here?” the deputy asked. “Alright, is that your grandmother inside? I need you to come with me immediately.

The assistant guided the granddaughter to the Tesla, and she managed to unlock the vehicle’s doors. The older woman was then able to exit and cool down.

The officers on duty estimated that the temperature inside the car had reached approximately 100F by the time the grandmother managed to get out.

The Weather Channel reported that temperatures in the region peaked at 86F on Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, ‘The temperature within a car can increase by 20 degrees in as few as 10 minutes, and by 50 degrees in an hour—despite the outside air being in the 70s.’

Deputies from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office recorded the concerning event and sent the details to Adult Protective Services for evaluation.

The Daily Mail sought a statement from Tesla.
