TikTok creator Camilla Alhassan avoided the longest possible prison sentence when the Accra Circuit Court sentenced her to one year in jail for making contentious comments about President John Dramani Mahama.

Following the hearing of the case, the court dropped one of the charges but determined her guilty of inappropriate behavior, resulting in a one-year prison sentence.
Court drops one accusation against Camilla
Speaking after proceedings, Camilla Alhassan’sLawyer Kwadwo Gyamfi Bonsu stated that the Accra Circuit Court rejected the electronic abuse charge, determining that it did not have the authority to handle that part of the case.
As per his statement, the court moved forward with the second charge of inappropriate behavior, for which Alhassan was convicted.
The attorney stated that while the crime has a maximum prison term of three years, the defense requested the court to show mercy.
He said:
On the second charge of misconduct, she was determined guilty by the court. Attorneys argued before the court to lessen the punishment, as these types of cases carry a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
He further disclosed:
The court considered the defendant’s behavior to be a disturbance in Ghana and aimed to use the punishment as an example for others.

Why did Camilla Alhassan get imprisoned?
The belief comes from videos Camilla Alhassan posted on TikTok where she claimed, without proof, that President John Dramani Mahama offered 32 cows during ceremonies to ensure success in the 2024 general election.
She further stated that the government’s provision of sanitary pads was meant to hide the supposed sacrifices.
The court determined her guilty of inappropriate behavior regarding the publications and imposed a one-year prison sentence after she admitted to the offense.

Throughout the trial, Abdul-Wahab’s attorneys also urged the prosecutors to provide proof that their client had taken money out of any blocked account.
