The head coach of the Chiefs, Andy Reid, has provided a significant update regarding Patrick Mahomes, stating that the quarterback has been officially approved to join practice sessions.

Speaking with journalists on Friday as quarterbacks and new players arrived for training campMissouriWestern State University, Reid mentioned that the three-timeSuper Bowlchampion is unrestricted after recovering from a torn ACL.

Pat is doing well with his [rehab],” Reid said during a press conference. “He currently has permission to train and participate in all the different sessions we have in this camp.

We’ll handle things one day at a time and observe his progress. He will have many people watching him, from coaches to trainers to medical professionals. However, he has currently been given the go-ahead to fully participate.

Mahomes was just as excited to return to the practice field after undergoing extensive rehabilitation throughout his entire offseason due to surgery on his left knee.

I feel more powerful than I’ve ever been in terms of strength and lifting,” Mahomes said. “I feel fantastic… I’m thrilled to be able to play football.

I’ve been working with cinderblock walls every day in Kansas City as part of the renovation. Now being on that practice field with my teammates, it’s going to be a lot of fun.

The 30-year-old quarterback sustained a major knee injury in a Week 15 game against theLos AngelesChargers in December, having surgery soon after to accelerate a rigorous recovery schedule.

Commenting on whether Mahomes will be prepared to play in Week 1, Reid showed hope but also highlighted the importance of taking things slowly as training camp begins.

I’m hopeful, and I believe he is very hopeful,” Reid said. “But I think you need to observe how things develop here. Let’s just assess our situation and avoid making any forecasts or other statements. Go one day at a time and see where it leads.

Not long after Reid’s remarks, the Chiefs shared a video showing Mahomes arriving for training. “QB1 checking in at camp,” they mentioned in their X post.

In the meantime, head coach Reid also commended Mahomes’ unwavering dedication during the off-season, recognizing the franchise quarterback for spending extensive time at the team’s training facility to get his knee ready for the challenges of camp.

He has been here every day, doing his own thing, recovering. I have mentioned before how much time he has dedicated – if anyone has spent time doing this properly, it’s him.

We value that. And he has received approval from the doctors to continue working. They are quite at ease with this decision. However, they will still monitor him closely.

The Chiefs’ quarterbacks and first-year players officially arrived in St. Joseph on Friday, allowing Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce to gain essential preparation time before the majority of the veteran players report on July 28.

Although it is uncertain if Mahomes will participate in August, Reid stated: “We’ll decide about the games and everything once we get there. But for now, we’re just taking it one day at a time and seeing how he progresses.”
