Morocco secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a tough 1-0 win against Algeria on Thursday at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.

Following a closely fought game, Sanaa Mssoudy scored in the 84th minute, converting a meticulously planned team play to secure a victory for the Atlas Lionesses.

The initial phase featured both teams trading attacks, with Morocco demonstrating more offensive enthusiasm in its pursuit of an early goal. Although they created better opportunities, the home team failed to overcome Algeria’s defense before the half, resulting in a 0-0 draw at halftime.

Morocco maintained control of the ball following the restart, exerting continuous pressure on Algeria’s defense and restricting their chances for counterattacks.

The key moment arrived six minutes before the end as Mssoudy created room within the penalty box and netted the sole goal of the game.

Algeria sought to tie the game in the final moments, but Morocco held strong in defense to maintain their advantage and achieve a second straight win in the competition.

The outcome moves Morocco to six points at the top of Group A, securing its position in the elimination rounds.

Algeria and Senegal both have three points, but Algeria is leading due to a better goal difference, while Kenya stays at the bottom of the group with no points.

Morocco will finish the group stage against Senegal, while Algeria plays against Kenya in the last matches of Group A.
