An elderly man in his 70s passed away while working in a field in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, during a period of extreme heat.

Around 7:40 p.m. on the evening of August 3, the family of A (in his 70s) found him lying unconscious in a red pepper field in Busuri, Sinpyeong-myeon, Dangjin City, and contacted 119.

When they arrived, fire officials verified that A had passed away.

It was reported that A’s family went to search for him after he failed to return home from his work on the farm and discovered him lying unconscious in the field.

Authorities are assessing that A succumbed to a heat-related condition while employed on the farm during the ongoing heatwave. The maximum temperature recorded in Dangjin that day was 35.1 degrees Celsius, with the highest perceived temperature reaching 35.5 degrees Celsius.

If health officials determine that A’s death resulted from a heat-related condition, the total number of heat-related fatalities in the South Chungcheong area will rise to four.
