Amid the massive flooding in Nepal, which left employees of Doosan Enerbility working on a hydropower plant construction site missing, Doosan Group Chairman Park Jeong-won and Vice Chairman Park Gee-won are departing for Nepal on the 29th to oversee on-site response efforts.
According to Doosan Group, the two executives are scheduled to board a direct flight departing from Incheon International Airport later that day. Earlier, Doosan Enerbility Vice Chairman Jung Yeon-in entered the site with a response team to lead search and recovery operations.
The accident occurred on the 26th when a large-scale flood hit the Rasuwa region of Nepal. As of now, nine South Koreans—six employees of Doosan Enerbility and three from Korea South-East Power—remain unaccounted for.
Search efforts are facing significant challenges. Roads leading to the accident site have been washed away, effectively blocking ground access, while Nepalese authorities’ restrictions on helicopter operations and adverse weather conditions have compounded the difficulties.
Doosan Enerbility activated an emergency task force of approximately 40 people immediately after the flood and is cooperating with government and local authorities to support search and rescue operations. Chairman Park stated in an internal announcement on the 27th, “We recognize the gravity of this situation” and emphasized that the company would mobilize all resources to confirm the safety and secure the safe return of its employees.
Doosan Group has decided to provide emergency support of 5 million dollars to the Rasuwa region to aid in local search, rescue, and recovery efforts.
