Kim Do-yeong, KIA, who suffered a broken nasal bone ahead of his participation in the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games, underwent surgery. Despite the injury, Kim has reportedly expressed his strong will to compete in the Asian Games.
KIA announced on the 10th, “Kim Do-yeong received a nasal bone fracture reduction surgery at a team-designated hospital on the night of the 9th,” adding, “He is scheduled to be discharged on the 11th after inpatient treatment.” The surgery involved realigning the fractured nasal bone. The exact timing of his return will be determined after assessing his recovery post-discharge.
Kim sustained the injury during the Jeonnam-Gwangju NC game the previous day. In the bottom of the fourth inning, with KIA trailing 0-3 and a runner on first base, Kim attempted a surprise bunt against NC starter Song Myeong-gi’s first pitch, clocked at 148 km/h. The ball rebounded off his bat and struck his face. Bleeding from his nose, Kim was immediately substituted and transported to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a nasal bone fracture.
With the Asian Games just days away, the national team has been placed on high alert. Kim is set to join the national team, led by manager Ryu Ji-hyun, on the 14th. KIA has decided to keep Kim on the first-team roster for now and monitor his recovery. Kim has also conveyed his intention not to abandon his plans to join the national team and participate in the Asian Games.
This season, Kim appeared in 122 games, recording a batting average of 0.306, 40 home runs, 99 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases. Just one day before the injury, on the 8th against Samsung, he hit his 40th home run of the season, achieving the milestone of 40 home runs in a single season for the first time in his professional career.
