A Kenyan pilot who graduated from the Kenya School of Flying just 27 days before his death has been killed in a training aircraft crash in Kajiado County, cutting short a career that had barely begun.

Alex Oluka died on Friday, September 18, when a light aircraft operated by the Kenya School of Flying went down in Kipeto, Kajiado West Constituency, near the Kipeto Wind Power Project.

Oluka, who had recently been appointed as a flight instructor after an exceptional performance at graduation, was on a routine training flight with a student pilot when the aircraft crashed in the hilly terrain. Both men on board were killed.

Kajiado West Sub-County Police Commander Maurine Jepkemboi confirmed the crash, saying preliminary findings indicate the aircraft came down in the hilly area of Kipeto.

MP Mourns NG-CDF Pioneer Pilot

Teso North Member of Parliament Oku Kaunya, who described Oluka as the constituency’s pioneer pilot under the National Government Constituencies Development Fund programme, issued a statement mourning the loss. Kaunya said he personally viewed Oluka’s body at Kajiado County Referral Hospital Mortuary alongside Martin Kibachio, General Manager of the Kenya School of Flying, Eng. Elijah Sempele of the same institution, and Ezekiel Wanga, DCIO Isinya. The body has since been moved to Chiromo Mortuary for preservation.

“Alex graduated last month from the Kenya School of Flying, where he demonstrated exceptional performance and dedication, earning him an opportunity to serve as an instructor,” Kaunya said in his statement. “His promising career was tragically cut short at a time when his future was full of hope and great possibilities.”

Mother Flew Over Kajiado at His Graduation

Oluka graduated on August 22, 2026, in a ceremony that featured an airshow over Kajiado County, during which the graduating pilots demonstrated their skills. Kaunya recalled that Oluka’s mother had the rare opportunity to fly over the county during that airshow — a memory that now carries added weight given the circumstances of her son’s death.

The MP extended his condolences to Oluka’s father, Leonard Otolim, his mother, Everylin Inait, and the wider family, friends, colleagues and the NG-CDF fraternity.
