Yang Yun-seo (18, Incheon Girls’ High School Affiliated Broadcasting and Communications High School), an amateur national team member preparing for the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games, will challenge for victory at the KLPGA (Korean Women’s Professional Golf Association) Tour tournament this week.
Yang shot 7 birdies and 2 bogeys, lowering her score by 5 strokes, during the third round of the Hana Financial Group Championship (total prize money: 1.5 billion Korean won) held at The Heaven Country Club (Par 72, 6,819 yards) in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, on the 19th. With a mid-round total of 6-under par 210, she placed third alongside others, trailing leader Kim Min-seon (8-under par) and runner-up Jang Eun-soo (7-under par).
Yang will represent South Korea in the women’s golf event at the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games, starting on the 30th, alongside Park Seo-jin (18, Seomun Girls’ High School) and Kim Kyu-bin (17, Haksan Girls’ High School). The Asian Games golf competition will begin with the first round on September 30 and conclude with the final fourth round on October 3. Yang qualified for this week’s Hana Financial Group Championship as the winner of the Asia-Pacific Women’s Amateur Championship in February.
Standing 174 cm tall, Yang also finished second at the Korean Women’s Open in June. She stated, “While the Asian Games is a major event, I don’t think it’s significantly different from other tournaments, and I plan to prepare the same way as usual. However, considering the course’s characteristics, I believe short-game play around the greens is crucial, so I’m focusing more on that aspect.”
She added, “This year, participating in several international competitions as a national team member has given me valuable experience on big stages, which I believe will greatly help my growth as a player. My goal in both the individual and team events at the Asian Games is a gold medal, but regardless of the result, my biggest aim is to play confidently, showcase everything I’ve prepared, and leave no regrets.”
The Hana Financial Group Championship featured numerous players from the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour. Hwang Yu-min tied for third, while Japanese twin sisters Iwaizumi Chiziro and Iwaizumi Aki placed tied 9th (1-under par) and tied 11th (even par), respectively. Yani Tseng (Taiwan) was tied for 57th (8-over par), while Lee Min-ji (Australia) and Lydia Ko (New Zealand) missed the cut the previous day.
