Police officers who commit legal distortion crimes, accept money or favors related to investigative duties, or leak investigation information will be subject to dismissal or removal as a general rule.
The National Police Agency announced on the 21st that it had passed an amendment to the “detailed enforcement rules of the disciplinary regulations for police officers” at a National Police Commission meeting. The amendment established new disciplinary standards for officers who commit legal distortion crimes under Article 132-2 of the Criminal Code and strengthened disciplinary measures for accepting money or favors related to investigative duties and leaking or disclosing critical investigation or enforcement information.
Officers falling under these categories will face “exclusionary discipline,” such as dismissal or removal, as a principle. Accepting money or favors related to investigative or enforcement duties is viewed as undermining the fairness of investigations and public trust in the police, prompting stricter disciplinary actions. Leaking internal information regarding warrant issuance, key evidence, wanted persons, or enforcement details will also be subject to exclusionary discipline as a rule.
