A University of Georgia student was seriously injured after falling out of an eighth-floor window while allegedly dancing on a couch.
The unidentified female reportedly lost her balance as she swayed near the window of the luxury apartment complex on Saturday.
Police said the student fell into the courtyard and pool area of the Rambler Athens, which averages about $1,599 per month, just a few blocks from the university’s campus.
Despite the terrifying fall, she survived and was conscious as emergency services arrived to take her to hospital, police said.
University student Vash Sivasundar said the ‘open concept’ of the complex meant apartment windows faced the pool area.
‘God’s looking out for her honestly. I really hope she’s doing well,’ Sivasundar told WSB-TV.
‘If she fell out of that window, they have to be able to open,’ he added. ‘I’m really surprised that they are able to open, especially from that height.’
In a series of statements, Rambler Athens confirmed the incident and said that windows were fitted with safety features to prevent them from fully opening.
‘Our thoughts are with the resident and their family. We are grateful to learn they are receiving treatment,’ a statement to WSBTV said.
‘We are continuing to gather information and review the circumstances surrounding what occurred.’
A separate notice to Rambler tenants from management said window safety limiters are in place throughout the building.
‘As a reminder, windows throughout the community are equipped with safety limiters,’ the statement said.
‘For your safety, please do not tamper with, remove or disengage these devices.’
