Iran’s official IRNA news reported that the delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly had no negotiations planned. The cited an unnamed source close to the Iranian delegation for the information.
The statement directly contrasts with Trump’s recent comments about possible renewed engagement between Washington and Tehran. Trump told Axios on Sunday that he expected negotiations between the two sides to resume soon.
Trump’s remarks came one day after he rejected an Iranian proposal concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran had proposed reopening the strategic waterway within seven days, according to the report.
