South Korea’s mixed 400m relay team failed to advance despite a re-race following the acceptance of their appeal against a disqualification for not finishing the event.
South Korea, competing in Heat 2 of the mixed 400m relay preliminaries at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games held at Mizuhopark Stadium in Nagoya, Japan, on the 28th, was unable to complete a normal baton exchange after an Indian athlete from an adjacent lane fell and slid into their lane during the handover. Consequently, they did not finish the race and were initially disqualified (DQ) before their protest led to a reclassification as Did Not Finish (DNF).
The Korea Association of Athletics Federations immediately continued to protest the situation on-site, and their appeal was accepted. As a result, South Korea competed in a solo re-race at the same venue at 10:27 p.m. the same day. The team, consisting of Seominjun, Seo Jihyun, Kim Sion, and Kim Juha in that order, recorded 42.79 seconds but failed to surpass Bahrain’s time of 42.18 seconds.
Following the acceptance of South Korea’s protest in the men’s 400m relay the previous day, this marked the second consecutive day the team earned a chance to re-race after protests over rulings, though they ultimately did not qualify for the finals.
