On Friday in Rabat, the Minister of Economy, Finance, and Public Performance, Fouzi Lekjaa, defended the tax provisions included in the 2027 Finance Bill before the House of Representatives, framing them as measures to support middle-income workers in both public and private employment sectors.

During the general discussion in the Finance and Economic Development Committee, the minister clarified that the income tax adjustments are intended for a demographic group «showing early signs of economic strain». He also tied the reform to ongoing social dialogue and introduced complementary actions aimed at employees excluded from tax relief, all part of broader efforts to protect household incomes amid escalating living costs.

Fouzi Lekjaa further announced that the minimum pension increase will cover basic public and private pension schemes. The floor will rise to 1,700 dirhams in 2027, reaching nearly 557,000 beneficiaries at an estimated annual cost of 3.3 billion dirhams. The government intends to progressively raise it to 2,000 dirhams in 2028, 2,500 dirhams in 2029, and 3,000 dirhams by 2030. Additionally, survivors’ pensions will be increased, benefiting approximately 431,000 widows annually at a cost of 7.33 billion dirhams.
