On Friday in Rabat, the Minister of Economy, Finance, and Public Sector Performance, Fouzi Lekjaa, defended measures to regulate food exports and overhaul marketing channels before the House of Representatives, emphasizing their role in ensuring essential goods are available domestically at affordable prices.

During the broader discussion on the 2027 Finance Bill within the Finance and Economic Development Committee, he tied efforts to control rising prices to key initiatives: controlling export flows, upgrading wholesale markets, aligning production zones more closely with consumption centers, and restructuring distribution networks for meat and fish. He noted that after seven years of drought, increasing export volumes would contradict the need to stabilize domestic prices.

Fouzi Lekjaa emphasized that this strategy does not represent a revival of the OCE model nor an attack on private enterprise, but rather aims to safeguard initiative «at every level and in every field». He announced plans to modernize 12 wholesale markets and highlighted regional companies designed to shorten the gap between producers and consumers, urging that these reforms be carried out in a coordinated and integrated fashion.
