Moroccan individuals have consumed a new high of 23.6 kg of poultry meat per person in 2025, compared to 17.2 kg in 2010, as reported by the Moroccan Poultry Federation (FISA) during the 18th International Agriculture Show (SIAM) in Meknes, which took place between April 20 and 28.

The data indicates the peak level observed in the last 15 years, as yearly poultry meat consumption in Morocco increased consistently from 17.2 kg in 2010 to 22.9 kg in 2019, then decreased to 19.2 kg in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

FISA stated that the industry currently fulfills all local demand for poultry meat, which makes up 55% of overall meat consumption, as well as meeting 100% of the need for table eggs.

This occurs as total investment in the poultry industry hit MAD 15.3 billion in 2025, generating a turnover of approximately MAD 48 billion and providing more than 180,000 direct employment opportunities.

The intake of table eggs also rose during the last 15 years, peaking at 191 eggs per person in 2025, compared to 138 in 2010.

However, in 2019, usage reached a peak of 195 per person, then decreased during the COVID-19 era to 177 in 2020 and 171 in 2021.

The increase in egg consumption also occurred alongside greater table egg production in 2025, reaching approximately 7.06 billion units, in contrast to 3.70 billion in 2010.

Production, however, decreased during the COVID-19 period, dropping to 5.5 billion units in 2020, following 6.10 billion in 2019, and then slowly increasing again in the years after the pandemic.

Poultry meat output also hit new highs in 2025, with 654,000 tons of chicken and 174,000 tons of turkey, as opposed to 440,000 tons and 70,000 tons, respectively, in 2011.

On the other hand, exports decreased in 2025, with the export of hatching eggs dropping to 55.23 million, a reduction from 67.18 million in 2024 and 68.65 million in 2022.

The export of day-old chicks also decreased to 1.369 million units, in comparison to 2.89 million in 2022 and 2.358 million in 2021.

Nevertheless, FISA, an organization that unites five professional associations within the poultry industry, stated that the sector continues to have significant export opportunities.

It was noted that Morocco started exporting poultry products in 2009, with the quantity steadily rising, especially to African countries like Mauritania, Mali, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Gabon, Tunisia, and the Central African Republic, as well as to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Exported items consist of animal feed for birds, eggs used for hatching, newly born chicks intended for meat and egg production, young turkeys, edible eggs, and prepared poultry goods.
