Ryanair will shut down its airport check-in and baggage drop-off services 60 minutes before the scheduled flight time – 20 minutes sooner than before – starting in November.

The intention is to give travelers additional time to go through airport security and passport checkpoints, which might otherwise lead to them missing their flight.

The report arrives as travelers encounterhuge queues at airportsfollowing the launch of the EU’s newEntry/Exit System (EES).

Ryanair has announced that the new policy will take effect starting on November 10. This change will not impact passengers carrying only a hand luggage, as they can still complete online check-in and proceed directly to their boarding gate.

“This will provide the 20% of our customers (those who check a bag) with additional time to navigate airport security and passport lines, and reach their departure gate on time, particularly during peak travel times when these queues can be extended,” said Dara Brady, Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer.

The airline, Europe’s largest, has also announced that it will be adding extra self-service baggage drop terminals at over 95% of the airports it operates in by October.

Since these kiosks are connected to the Ryanair app, travelers can check their luggage and print baggage labels without concerns about waiting.

Ryanair’s baggage policy

A budget airline, Ryanair’s standard prices on a flight only cover a small personal item, measuring 40 x 30 x 20 cm, which needs to fit beneath the seat in front of you.

You have the option to include a 10kg cabin bag measuring 55 x 40 x 20cm, with costs ranging from €6 to €36, based on the route and travel dates.

Individuals requiring a checked bag have the option of selecting from 10kg, 20kg, and 23kg packages, priced at €9.49, €18.99, and €29.99 respectively.
